William R. Hochradel, wonderful husband, father, and beloved grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, surrounded by family.

Bill was born in 1930 in Monroe, Michigan to parents Carl and Elva (Miller). He was the 6th of nine children. After graduating from Liberty Union High School in 1948, he joined the Presidential Honor Guard (known as “The Old Guard”). He met and married Sue Hubbard in 1952, and they lived in Arlington, VA until he was discharged.

After leaving the military, he was hired by Ohio Fuel and Gas (later renamed Columbia Gas), and he retired in 1987 as Division Manager - Pittsburgh. He and Sue moved back to Ohio to be closer to their families.

Bill was happiest when he was busy on a project or lending a hand at home or at his church. He was known for his woodworking skills and the little notebook he kept in his pocket to sketch ideas for a new lamp, a desk, a bird feeder, or a toy for his grandkids. An avid fisherman, he made yearly trips to Canada with friends and family. He enjoyed researching his genealogy, and in 1995, he was thrilled to travel to Germany. He believed no dessert could ever have enough raisins, especially his all-time favorite: lebkuchens.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carl, Robert, and Donald, and sisters Shirley, Violet, and Janice. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann, brother James, and his wife of 71 years, Sue (Hubbard) Hochradel. He is also survived by his children Lynda (James) and Stephen (Tina), grandchildren Michael, Joshua, Suzanne, and Will as well as great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Christopher Nickison and the wonderful staff at Fairhope Hospice Center. Graveside services and military honors will be held Thursday, February 8th at 11 AM at Grandview Cemetery, Bremen with Pastor Linda Ward officiating. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Fairhope Hospice in Lancaster or Bremen Community Methodist Church.
