Thomas Brown West, 81, of Rushville, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born April 8, 1935 near Winchester, Ohio the son of the late Elmer Ernest and Nellie (Maude) Brown. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a graduate of Sardinia High School, received his BS in Education from Wilmington College and his Master of Education from Eastern Kentucky University. He taught at Baltic High School for 5 years to begin his career in teaching and retired from Fairfield Union High School following 27 years as an Industrial Arts teacher. Tom was a member of the Bremen United Methodist Church, Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge #211, Blue Bird Society, Arbor Day Foundation, Fairfield Union Education Association and Land Lab, Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association, Bremen Area Historical Society and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a volunteer for the Fairfield County Historical Society.
Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Ann (Lemmon) West, whom he married June 6, 1958; two children, D. Scott West and Diana Rae West; 3 grandchildren, Shanda West, Davis West and Erin (Andrew) Hardwick; 2 brothers, Walter and Kenneth (Sharon) West; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 infant sons; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Jane (Frederick) Bradford; and sister-in-law, Sharlee West.
A time to visit with Tom’s family will be Wednesday from 2 -4 and 6 -8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 1 PM with one hour prior visitation at the Bremen United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Hite officiating.
