Thelma E. Lacey, 86, of Bremen, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Lanfair Center in Lancaster. She was born on February 13, 1925 in Bremen, Ohio the daughter of Jess and Eva Stoner. She was a lifelong member of the Bremen Calvary United Methodist Church and a devoted church worker and prayer warrior. She was a 1943 graduate of Rushcreek Memorial High School. In 1943 she entered nurses training. She paid for her schooling by being a “Rosie the Riveter” working in a plant in Westerville, Ohio that manufactured bombs for World War II. In 1946 she graduated from the Lancaster Hospital School of Nursing and practiced her profession as a registered nurse at the Lancaster Hospital for a year and then for Dr. M.E. Nichols until 1952 when she changed her profession to housewife and mother. She married Robert W. Lacey on October 29, 1949. She supported him when he ran and was elected to serve as Fairfield County Clerk of Courts. She was also involved with the Republican Party, serving on the Central Committee and working for the election board. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Vickie Winkelman of Lancaster; sons, Brian and Chris Lacey of Bremen; grandchildren, Sarah Lacey of Columbus and Tyler Winkelman of Cincinnati; sister, Mary C. Stoner; sisters-in-law, Jean Lacey, Sherry Lacey and Rosemary Dupler, all of Lancaster and Mildred Stoner of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert W. Lacey; sisters, Laura Adamson, Pauline Harris; brothers, Robert, Raymond and Frederick Stoner; and son-in-law, Gary Winkelman. Visitation will be held Friday, November 25, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen. Funeral services will take place Saturday at 10 AM with one hour prior visitation at Calvary United Methodist Church, 130 Purvis Avenue, Bremen with Rev. Raymond Sharritts officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
