Sidney Alan George, of Pleasantville died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Fairfield Medical Center. He was born in Star Township, Hocking County Ohio, July 4, 1941 to the late Harry George and Golden Louella (Kisor) George.
Sidney attended East and South Elementary Schools, graduating from Lancaster High School on June 5, 1959. On June 10, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He completed boot camp at Great Lakes and was then stationed at Quonset Point Rhode Island. He entered Parachute "A" Rigger School at NAS Toms River, NJ followed by Heavy Attack Squadron Five, Sanford, FL, Parachute Rigger "B" School, also at NAS Toms River, NJ. Later he was stationed at VA12 NAS Jacksonville, FL and ended his duty in August of 1967 at N.W.E.F. Albuquerque, NM.
Sidney served in the Ohio Air National Guard where he was a Staff Sargeant from 1974-1978. He was a past president of the Ohio Steel Workers Union while employed at Mirror Insulation, Lancaster, Ohio. He retired from Dor-Mar Heating and Cooling. He was a member and past Commander of American Legion Post 9, Pleasantville.
He was an antique tractor enthusiast, car and motorcyle buff, an avid reader and a two-time cancer survivor.
He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl George, Deanna (Dean) Throckmorton, Nannette (Joe Fox) George, Misti (Johnny) Sciacca. Seven grand children: Dean, Chris and Jessica Throckmorton, Hunter (Greg Pritchard), Jacklyn and Logan Rizer and Landon Sciacca; great grandson, Kamden Pritchard; brother, Virgil (Carolyn) George, and sister, Juanita Lindsey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Brown) George, brother, Raynor George, sisters, Helen Poling, Marlene Bollin and Gloria George.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 7 PM in the Pleasantville United Methodist Church, 112 Lincoln Avenue, Pleasantville. A time to visit with family will take place from 6 PM - 7 PM. Contributions in Sidney's memory may be made to Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen, Ohio 43107.
