Russell Wikoff Hugus, 89, of Hugus Fruit Farm, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010 at home. He was born November 15, 1920 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Ray and Berenice (Wikoff) Hugus. He served in the Navy during World War II after which he returned to the family farm, near Rushville, Ohio. In early years, he kept a herd of registered Jersey dairy cattle; in recent years he grew an orchard of apples and peaches for our community. He was a member of the Rushville United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau Council 33 and served as a volunteer firefighter for many years. Russell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan Hugus; children, Ralph (Nancy) Hugus, Carl (Jill) Hugus, Aileen (Jeff) Jacobs and Nancy Ackerman; seven grandchildren; his brother, Harold Hugus of Riverton, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen, Ohio. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 11 AM in the Rushville United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Wymer officiating. Burial will follow at the Rushville-Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
