Ronald Lee Spangler, 85, of Lancaster, died Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Pickering House. He was born August 21, 1937 in Canton, Ohio to the late Foster T. and Myrtle Ilene (South) Spangler.

Ron was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corp. He worked as a union carpenter for Local 200, Columbus. He had been a member of the United Pilgrim Church, Royalton, Ohio. Ron was a big contributor to foreign missions and he made 7 trips to Haiti and one to Ghana to work on the mission field. In his later years, he was passionate about restoring old religious books and Methodist books from the 1500’s to the present – replacing and repairing old leather bindings and pages as needed. His favorite pastime was gardening at “Brenda’s” and teaching his great-grandkids about edible mushrooms and plants.

Ron is survived by his children; Ron Spangler II of Carroll, OH, Tamara (Tim) Hugus of Riverton, WY, Brenda Friesner of Bremen, OH, Brad (Joyce) Spangler of New Lexington, OH and Brian (Cheri) Spangler of New Columbia, PA; grandchildren, Zach, Issac, Ben, Jeremy, Jessica, Jenelle, Jerrica, Bradley Jr., Brent, Brandan, Marie, Brian II and Kevin; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Terry, Rick (Carol), Don (Laine) and Clint (Debbie) Spangler; sisters, Carolyn (R.C.) Sowders, Linda Wright, Evelyn (Bob) Longo, Kathy (Greg) Shivley and Bessie (Marvin) Shipman; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mae Christine Spangler, August 17, 2005; son, James Edward Spangler; brothers, Jack, Jim, Larry and George Spangler; and sister, Alice Self.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 18th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral services will take place Friday at 10 AM at the Bible Holiness Church, Bremen with his son, Rev. Brian Spangler officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Ron’s memory to the Pickering House, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.

Ron’s greatest desire was to see people come to know Christ as their Savior.
