Raymond Andrew Hambel

Raymond A. Hambel, 51, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026 in the home he loved. He was born October 18, 1974 in Athens, Ohio to Rodney and Susie (Courtright) Hambel. 

Andy loved his family and he will be deeply missed by his wife, Jennifer Jackson Hambel; his children, Andrew and Ava Hambel; his parents, Rodney and Susie; mother-in-law, Debbie and Glen O'Bryan and father-in-law, Jim and Cheryl Jackson; brother, Rodney Alan (Kihwa) Hambel; brother-in-law, Jake (Amanda) Jackson; sister-in-law, Heather (Doug) Newman; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his Aunt Stacey Buckalew; and cousins, Joey Wright, Robbie Henry and Nick Grandominico. 

Ray was a 1993 graduate of Fairfield Union High School. After high school, he worked at various jobs in the Lancaster area and entered law enforcement working for the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office. In 2001, he began working for the Lancaster Police Department. Ray loved Lancaster and thoroughly enjoyed working the Lancaster Festival, the Fairfield County Fair, the Vinton County National (Bremen) Bank and Cinemark. He was a huge fan of Van Halen and the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar. He loved baseball, especially watching his son's baseball games, and big fan of the Buckeyes. 

Ray didn't know a stranger. He could talk to anyone and was equally good at listening. He had a heart of gold and was well-respected among his peers and by those within the community he faithfully served.

A time to visit with Ray's family will be Friday, August 14th from 10am - 1 pm at the The Tree Church, 721 N. Memorial Drive, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm. Graveside services will take place at Grandview Cemetery, Bremen, Ohio.
