Merle (Best-Byers) Myers, 80, of Thornville, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Pickering House, Lancaster. She was born March 27, 1935 in Haw River, North Carolina the daughter of Alger Jenkins and Mabel (Gore) Best. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Marvin Henry Myers, whom she married September 24, 1983; 2 sons, Roger “Pete” (Cheryl) Byers, Charles “Speedy” (Kat) Byers; 4 daughters, Janet Gordon, Cindy (David) Sparkman, Rita (Jerry) Anderson and Cassandra Byers; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; and two nieces in Burlington, North Carolina – one being very special to her, Deborah Kerr. She retired from the Fairfield Union School District in 2000 following 25 years of full time service as a bus driver. After retiring, she continued driving bus as a substitute for 4 years. Merle put up a very courageous and good fight. A special thanks to Dr. Sing and his staff of nurses, they were the best. Bless all of you for being so kind and generous. A visiting time will take place Friday from 10 – 11 AM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen. Graveside services will follow at 12 PM with Herbert Uhrig officiating at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lancaster.
