Margaret Jane “Peg” Stemen, 90, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. She was born October 31, 1923 in Bremen, Ohio the daughter of Harold and Mary Jane Swinehart. Peg was a lifetime member of Bremen United Methodist Church. Peg was well known to be an exceptional knitter, sharing her beautiful talents with family and friends. Hundreds of children around the world were blessed by the toboggans she knit and donated to Operation Christmas Child. Peg is survived by daughter, Debbie (Tom) George; son, Kim (Cathy) Stemen; four grandchildren, Betsy (Steve) Sesslar, Lance (Robin) George, Adrienne Stemen and Corinne Stemen; three great-grandchildren, Case, Colton and Elle George; sister-in-law, Eileen Stemen; nephews, Burton Stemen, Ron Stemen, Dean and Larry Frost; and cousin, Willetta Minner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl, to whom she was married for 70 years; infant son, Stephen Brooks Stemen; and nephew, Greg Stemen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 AM in the Bremen United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peg’s name to the Bremen United Methodist Church, 205 Walnut Street, Bremen, Ohio 43107.
