Linda G. Sturm, age 61, of Columbus, Ohio passed away at home on October 15, after a valiant battle with Multiple System Atrophy-C. Linda grew up in Bremen, Ohio, graduated from Fairfield Union High School in 1974 and earned a Court Reporting Degree from Northern Technical School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1978. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Thelma and Gene Sturm of Bremen, Ohio. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Steve (Lori) Sturm, Michele (Howard Tilley) Sturm, Sandy (Brian) Durnell, John Sturm and her cat Lucy, along with many nieces and nephews.
Linda had a wonderful life and traveled extensively. She loved life and laughed her way through a devastating disease with the willpower and determination that inspired many. Though Linda is no longer here with us, we know she is present with the Lord. She was a Partner at Life Vineyard Church and was baptized there on Easter Morning 2016.
Linda pursued a career in court reporting in the Franklin County and Fairfield County Court Systems until she co-founded Professional Reporters, Inc., in 1980. She attained certifications of RDR, CRR, CBC, CCP and Fellow of the National Court Reporters Association. She served as President of the Ohio Court Reporters Association from 2004 – 2006 and received many OCRA awards including the 2001 OCRA Diplomat Award, 2007 OCRA Legislative Award and the 2013 OCRA Glenn W. Stiles, Jr. Distinguished Service Award. She served as mentor, role model and leader in the Court Reporting Community by promoting technological advancements in the industry, including the use of closed captioning and videography.
Linda has been a friend of Bill W for 15 years where she was blessed with many close friends and sponsored many people. That community of friends provided so much vital support for Linda over the years and especially as her disease progressed and her dependence upon them grew.
Linda will be interred at Grandview Cemetery, Bremen, OH. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life party on November 4 at 1:00 PM at Life Vineyard Church, 620 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus 43205, to remember Linda and share inspiring stories of her life.
Linda and her family would like to thank all of those who helped her throughout her journey living with MSAC (too many to list here – you know who you are), as well as Ohio Health Hospice and her compassionate caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition (MultipleSystemAtrophy.org) or the National Ataxia Foundation (Ataxia.org) in memory of Linda.
