Early Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024, our beloved son and brother, Lawrence Harden Sullivan entered into the arms of Christ Jesus and his loving mother Etta Ruth Sullivan who preceded him in death.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 26, 1964, Lawrence was the son of Rev. Lawrence & Etta Ruth (Watters) Sullivan of Rockbridge, Ohio. Rev. Sullivan survives him, along with sibling Latricia Sullivan (Steven) Johnston of Lancaster. Also surviving are nephews Aaron Ray (Laura) Johnston, Ridge Owen Johnston, great niece Laila Ann Johnston and his beloved black labrador, Stella, all of Lancaster. He is also preceded in death by grandparents Harden and Gracie (Smith) Sullivan, and Rev. Clyde & Ruby (Fisher) Watters.
Lawrence was a 1982 graduate of Logan High School and Tri-County J.V.S. where he studied carpentry. Upon graduation he joined the Army National Guard and eventually joined the United States Army full-time. Following his service in the armed forces, his career was in construction management, his last of which was at Robertson’s Construction Services Inc.
In his lifetime, he received several awards and accolades. From state competitions in high school carpentry trade, his service in the Army, and through his memberships in the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Amvets. Anyone who knew Larry, knows his love of motorcycle riding. Larry was a 20-year member of 13th Masonic District of Ohio in New Straitsville. He cofounded American Legion Post 11 Riders, then became District 8 Riders Director. He went on to become State Legion Riders Director in 2022. He also became 2nd Vice Commander of District 8, then First Vice Commander of District 8. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Logan American Legion post 78 and Pickerington American Legion Riders Post 283. He became Commander of American Legion District 8 in 2024, just weeks before his passing.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers over the past eleven months, including employee of Home Helpers, Ms. Kathy Bowsher for all her help in his final days. Our hearts are broken but we find peace in the knowledge that he no longer suffers from his terminal diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma.
Service will be held at Faith Memorial Church where he attended, 2610 West Fair Avenue, Lancaster, Ohio, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11 am, with Pastor Aaron Johnston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Visitation will also be held at Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen, Ohio, on Friday evening, August 23, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Special Masonic Service will be held at end of visitation. Graveside Service will be held at Mount Olive Cemetery, Laurel Township, near Gibisonville, Ohio, and immediately following, a celebration of life and lunch will be graciously provided by Pickerington American Legion Riders Post 283 at 7725 Refugee Road, Pickerington, Ohio 43147.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Larry Sullivan Memorial – American Legion Riders Post 283, held at Vinton County National Bank.
