John R. VanAtta, 73, of Lancaster, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home. He was born January 24, 1944 in Shawnee, Ohio, the son of Paul M. and Betty E. (McCarty) VanAtta. He was a graduate of Rushcreek Memorial High School and was retired from Diamond Power with almost 50 years service. John’s greatest joy was his family and the activities he enjoyed involved those he loved, whether it be fishing, camping or hunting. He passionately followed the sporting events his grandkids were participating in at Fairfield Union and Bloom Carroll. John is survived by his wife, Sharon K. (Ruff) VanAtta, sons, Tim and Chris (Tammy) VanAtta; grandchildren, Kyle (Katie), Dalton and Carolyn (Josh); brother, Donald (Penny) VanAtta; half-sister, Shirley (Jerry) Cowles; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Helen Louise VanAtta.
A time to visit with her family will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 AM in the funeral home.
