John Karl Schmelzer, 92, of Bremen died Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Main Street Terrace. He was born on August 21, 1932, in Bremen, Ohio. He graduated from Rushcreek Memorial High School, Class of 1950. He is a US Army Veteran. He attended Ohio University and Veterans Administration Agricultural Training Program. John was a lifelong farmer, Maintenance Director of the Rushcreek Conservancy District and TRC sales representative. He was a life member of the American Legion and a fourth degree of Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Mary Eleanor (Nash) Schmelzer; children, David (Beatrice), Teresa (Steve) German, John Kavin (Maria), Jeffrey (Celesta) Schmelzer, Debbie (Darren) Shaffer, Denise (Dennis) Primmer, and Edward (Janet); sixteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; and brother, James (Barbara).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo August and Loretta (Weisenberger) Schmelzer; brothers, Leo and Francis; sister, Veronica Hammond; son-in-law, Steve German; Great-Grandchildren, Rosalie Murrey and Celesta Hommel.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2-6 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Holy Rosary will be at the end of visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 16th at 11 AM at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 343 Wheeling Road, Lancaster. Graveside services will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bremen, Ohio.
