Joan S Hugus

Joan S. Hugus, 89, of Rushville, was received by our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. She was born January 14, 1927 in Marion, Ohio to the late Arthur Hastings and Virginia (Birney) Smith. Joan received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ohio State University. She was a member of the Rushville United Methodist Church, Women’s Missionary Fellowship Group and a charter member of Farm Bureau Council 33. Joan was the matriarch of her family and loved them each dearly. She had the unique gift of making life’s events, both great and small, reasons to celebrate together as a family. She is survived by her children, Ralph (Nancy) Hugus, Carl (Jill) Hugus, Aileen (Jeff) Jacobs and Nancy Ackerman; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Richard (Ana) Smith; sister-in-law, Norma Smith; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell W. Hugus; and brother, Dr. Jay Birney. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Joe Leighton officiating. Burial will follow at the Rushville-Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
