James F. Johnston, 84, of Bremen, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Pickering House. He was born March 2, 1933 in Hocking County, Ohio the son of late Willis A. and Helen J. (Gartner) Johnston. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Berne Union High School and was the last survivor of his class. He was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict.
Jim was retired from Fairfield Homes and 3M Company serving in supervisory roles for both companies. If you asked Jim, he would say he was a farmer. He lived a full life – won 2nd place in Golden Glove Boxing, many trophies at dirtbike hillclimbing and was the lead in the country band, Jim Johnston and the Country Five. Anyone who knows Jim would agree that he did everything his way.
Jim is survived by his wife of 17 years, Connie B. (Parsons) Johnston; 7 children, Debbie, Sheri, Jamie, Jim Jr., Becky, Benny and Cathy; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; brother, Tom Johnston; sister, Betty (Emerson) Hockman; adopted grandson, Jeremy Mills; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Angel.
A visitation will be Sunday from 2 – 5 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 AM in the funeral home. Graveside and military honors will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Online condolences at
