Gregory James Ptacin, 82, of Hideaway Hills, Ohio died peacefully Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. He was born January 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Frank and Cornelia Ptacin.
Greg was a 1959 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Chicago and went on to receive his BS in Business Administration from Bradley University, Peoria in 1966. Greg worked in the newspaper business from 1965 – 2006 with management roles in advertising, promotion, market research and publishing in Illinois, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio. He was a publisher for the Chillicothe Gazette and for the Lancaster Eagle Gazette from 1992 – 2006 upon his retirement. He was a very active leader in his community including Chairman of the Mayor’s Committee for Lancaster Downtown Revitalization, Board member of the United Way of Fairfield County and Campaign Chairman in 1999, Member of the Board of Governors of Lancaster Country Club, Citizen of the Year by Fairfield and Hocking County Board of Realtors in 2000, Hideaway Hills Board of Trustees from 2014 – 2019, Developer and Chair of Hideaway Hills Organic Garden and the dam restoration project. He was an integral part of the Bremen Community Methodist Church as both a lay speaker and leader of the stained glass window restoration project.
Greg is survived by his spouse, Janet (Houghton) Ptacin; children, Laura (Dan) Purcell, Tracy (Patrick) Holland, Frank (Anna) Ptacin, Melissa (Michael) Daly, Sheri Moore and Clint Moore; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Shelia) Ptacin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Lorrayne Slobodnik, and former wife Beverly Ptacin.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held Saturday, April 13th at 11 AM in the Bremen Community Methodist Church with Pastor Linda Ward officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to services. .
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Greg’s memory to Bremen Community Methodist Church, 205 North Mulberry St., Bremen, Ohio
