Glenn Miller, 91, passed away at The Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio, on Saturday July 5, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Glenn is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Miller (née Brown); as well as four sons, Jeffrey (Julie Blemler), Michael (Jennifer), Brett (Persis Sosiak) and James (Marcia); grandchildren, JD, ShirlAnn, Jamie, Emily, Jackie, Ben, and Julia; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Alexander. Glenn was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Lottie Mae Miller; and siblings, Esther, Wanda, Ethel, Butch, Faye, Jane, Edith, and Nancy.
Eighth of nine children, Glenn grew up in Columbiana County, Ohio and graduated from Goshen High School (nka West Branch). After graduation, Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in Pensacola, Florida.
After being honorably discharged, Glenn attended Kent State and Youngstown State Universities, majoring in Education. It was here that he would meet Barbara and they would begin their life together.
Glenn taught history and coached football and basketball at Gibsonburg and Greenford High Schools. They would eventually move to Kent, Ohio, where they resided for 25 years, raising their sons and where Glenn worked as a State Farm Insurance Agent for 32 years.
In addition to his family, Glenn was devoted to his faith. He was an active member of the Boston Heights Friends Church, and then the Jackson Friends Church where he served as Administrative Pastor. Glenn's faith led him to achieve a Master's in Divinity Studies from Malone University in 1994 which he used both in ministry and faith formation.
In addition to his family and faith, Glenn was an avid gardener. During the summer months, Glenn was usually found outside, tending, weeding, or coaxing plants to grow and yielding impressive results. He frequently shared cuttings and heirloom plants with family and friends. While in Uniontown, Glenn managed and tended multiple apple trees whose harvest was enjoyed by family, friends, neighbors and strangers.
Recently, Glenn and Barbara relocated to Lancaster, Ohio to be closer to family; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Altercare of Lanfair Center for their care and compassion, as well as the many others who cared for Glenn over the past months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Jackson Friends Church, 7945 Portage St. NW, Massillon, OH on Sunday, August 10 from 3-4 PM.
