It is with great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the family of Gary Lynn Peters announce his passing on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the age of 64. He was born June 14, 1959 in Lancaster, Ohio, the son of John Donald and Mary Margaret (Hoffmann) Peters.

Gary attended Liberty Union High School. After graduating in 1978, he dedicated 7 years to military service and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He taught auto mechanics for 10 years for the State of Ohio. He was an active member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Bremen where he played piano and bass guitar, sang and led worship services. He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in every ministry he volunteered to serve in.

Gary's memory lives on with his wife of 23 years, Julie (Rood) Peters. Gary and Julie originally met at church in Baltimore, Ohio at a very young age. Their lives took them on different paths until many years later when they reconnected and chose each other as life partners and married September 8, 2001. He is also remembered by his father, John (Donna) Peters; his children, Genifer (Travis) Hurst, Bethany Peters, Gary Matthew (Sara) Peters, Dawn (Michael) Day, Nickie (Brian) Kimes, Eric Runyon and Daniel Runyon. Gary and Julie share 12 grandchildren; Tyler (Layla), Madalyn, Grayson, Addyson, Gideon, Elias, Finley, Gracelynn, Makayla (Riley), Noah, Zaine, Chloe, and has a great grandson, Maverick, on the way. He will also be missed by his siblings, Tom (Linda) Peters, Brenda (Gary) Thrasher, Vicki Jenkins, and Lisa (Dale) Sherlock; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and several close friends who's lives he touched and considered family. Gary was welcomed to his heavenly home by his mother, Mary Peters; son, Brad Runyon; and mother-in-law, Wilma Young; and many other family members who have gone home before him. Gary had canine companions that were very dear to him, he was loved and adored by his westies Pebbles, Gracie, Chloe Ann, and Bailey. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan.

Gary was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: master mechanic, teacher, soilder, contractor- he was driven and wanted to understand the intricacies of each part, machine, and movement. He put his knowledge and skills to work, he was a jack of all trades and master of it all, if it was broken, he could fix it, and whatever he did, he was all in and did it with all his might!

Gary was never afraid to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and high principles. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his positive energy and integrity. Gary had incredible patience and always made time for others. He truly loved people and if you knew him, you knew it. Even with all his interests and the many things that divided his attention, he loved to read the Bible, and had a strong faith in God. He loved to lead worship and praise his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There's nothing he wanted more than to see his family and friends know the love of Christ and be saved.

Gary had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. Even while in the hospital he laughed and joked with his nurses. When the time came to acknowledge to absence from the body is to be present with the Lord, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who were with him and cared for him. The impact of Gary’s life will be felt for years to come and he will be incredibly missed.
