Fred Sherlock passed through the valley of death to eternal life on July 28, 2022. His favorite hymn “Blessed Assurance Jesus Is Mine” is now a reality. Fred was born to Elza and Ethel (Moyer) Sherlock on December 1, 1932. He married Faith Prichard on July 1, 1956 and she preceded him in death in 2014.
Fred was a member of Avlon United Brethren in Christ Church. Fred worked in a variety of jobs over his lifetime, including Bremco and Westerman’s in Bremen, but his real passions were family and nature photography. He did a variety of exhibitions and presentations and was always happy to show his pictures to anyone who had similar interests. His herbarium (wild plant specimens), containing nearly 2,000 species will be donated to Huntington University in Indiana. He was also an accomplished classical pianist.
Fred is survived by his son, Jeff (Joan) Sherlock of Huntington, Indiana, daughter, Betsy (Peter) Martindale of Bremen, Ohio, and daughter, Mary Jane Sherlock of Bremen, Ohio. A son, Scott Sherlock preceded him in death. His three children, eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren loved him dearly but recognize that he is now with his Savior and loved ones who have gone before.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 5 – 8 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. A service of remembrance will be held in the funeral home Saturday, August 6th at 10 AM with Rev. Jason Sheets and Rev. Chuck Wheatley presiding. Graveside services will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
