The City of Lancaster lost one of the original Outdoorsman/Entrepreneurs. Frederick “Fred” Charles Hyme, 69, of Lancaster, died peacefully Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Fairfield Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born December 1, 1951 in Lancaster, Ohio the son of Wilford F. and Ellen A. (Kilbarger) Hyme.
Fred was a 1970 graduate of Lancaster High School and had worked for Anchor Hocking for 43 years. Fred left a legacy beyond any measure in the outdoor industry. Spending his entire adult life working for Anchor Hocking… Fred on the side, invested into his passion and dream of opening Fairfield Outdoors. Along with his wife and son he owned the only indoor archery range and pro shop in the area, where thousands of paths where shaped. He was and avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter and enjoyed doing taxidermy. Fred accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized on May 26, 2021. Fred was a family man, a gentleman, and a absolute great human being.
Fred is survived his wife of 49 years, Thresa (Searls) Hyme, whom he married December 11, 1971; children, Shane (Kathy) Hyme and Carey Payne; 7 grandchildren, Dakota and Hunter Snapp, Hayden, Paxton, Camryn, Jensen and Ryan Payne; sisters, Mary Jo (Glen) Hanks and Donna (Larry) Yencer; brother-in-law, Ronnie Splangler; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilford F. Hyme; and sisters, Margaret (Billy) Foltz and Mae Spangler.
Graveside services will take place Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lancaster with Pastor Todd Smeltzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to his family to assist with his medical expenses. Online condolences at
