Connie Sue (Teeter) Montag, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great aunt peacefully passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on May 2, 1950 in Zanesville and raised in Bremen Ohio, Connie was the daughter of Mary (Hillyard) Teeter and Roy David Malone. After graduating from high school, Connie enlisted with the Sixth Army where she trained and worked as a Payroll Distribution Specialist serving at Fort Lewis Washington. This service would shape the course of her later life, instilling in her a fierce pride in her Army service, helping her to discover her exceptional gift for accounting and auditing, and leading to the birth of her beloved son, Christopher Mulliss. Connie had the determination and strength to raise Christopher as a single mother, working as an accountant and taking night-time college courses at the Lancaster branch of Ohio University to advance her education. In 1979 Connie met the love of her life, Ken Montag, at the laundromat at the Little Brook Estates apartment complex, and a new phase of her life began. Marrying Ken in January 1980, Connie forged two families into one with patience, love, humor, and sheer determination. Connie not only gained a loving husband and a wonderful father for Christopher, but also a stepdaughter, Melissa Montag, whom we would all grow to cherish beyond words. The list of people who now embrace each other as "family" in their hearts is far too long to list here. It includes surnames like Hillyard, Teeter, Montag, Kunz, Mulliss, Huhn, Craig, Brown, Crawford, Nubel, Talmadge, Papazoni, and so many more. Connie showed determination and courage yet again by quitting her job as an accountant and devoting herself to finishing her degree from Ohio University. With her hard-earned degree in hand, Connie went on to work as a Federal Auditor for the Department of Health and Human Services. At HHS, Connie worked tirelessly for over 20 years to stamp out fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare/Medicaid, helping countless individuals who rely on those critical services. Throughout their lives together Connie and Ken have opened their hearts and even their home to many family members. In recent years, they have welcomed their grand-niece, Samantha Brown and her family, to live with them at their Hide-A-Way Hills home. This has filled their home with the laughter and noise of young children to Connie's delight. Connie had many hobbies that filled her latter years will joy. She adored her serene home with its beautiful view of forested hills teeming with deer and wildlife. She had a passion for crafts, especially for making patchwork- and crotchet-style quilts which she would often give to her dearest friends and to family members. Connie had a life-long love of genealogy, spending countless hours with the Bremen Area Historical Society and serving as the family "historian".
Private graveside and military honors will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster, where Connie will be laid to rest with her beloved Ken and Melissa. Her family request contributions in Connie's memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the Bremen Area Historical Society.
