Charles Thomas Hayes, 82, of Lancaster, Ohio died peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He was born October 3, 1942 in Zanesville, Ohio to E. Thomas and Hazel Irene (Stoneking) Hayes.

Charlie was a veteran of the US Army serving 3 years during the Vietnam War and served in the Ohio National Guard for 3 years. He spent the majority of his adult life living in Newark, Ohio. For 27 years, he worked at the Newark Air Base in grounds maintenance and worked an additional 13 years for Licking County Aging Program as a driver providing meals to the elderly. In 2001, Charlie married Linda and in 2018, he and Linda moved to Lancaster.

Charlie's life was filled with joy, hard work, and a love for people. As a young man, he cherished his time helping on his uncle's farm, where he developed a deep appreciation for animals and the value of lending a hand. He was skilled in woodworking, loved being on the water boating and fishing, and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Charlie gave generously of his time as a volunteer with the Licking Valley Boosters and the Licking County Food Pantry, always eager to support his community. Known for his collection of festive Santa hats during the Christmas season, he brought laughter and cheer wherever he went. Charlie never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile; when asked how he was doing, his trademark reply was always, "just fine." His wonderful sense of humor, kind heart, and love for others will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Linda Walker Hayes, whom he married October 13, 2001; sister, Doris (Richard) Waddell; brother, Larry Hayes; step-daughters, Amy (Harry) Young, Peggy (Barry) Wright and Wendy (Greg) Yarbrough; 6 step-grandchildren; 2 great step-grandchildren; and nephew, Michael Stevens. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Louise Lambert; brothers, Stan and Tom; and sister, Rose Marie.
