Bettie Jewel Williams Profile Photo
Bettie Jewel Williams, 89, of Springfield, quietly and peacefully went home to be with Jesus and her family, Sunday, December 8, 2013. She was born the middle daughter of William and Betty (Damron) Crossen on November 23, 1924. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Margaret Virginia “Jennie” (Jack) Williams and her baby sister, Dolly (William) Kretzer. Bettie was a true example of a godly woman. She was an encourager to the many friends and family who were blessed to know her. She quietly gave of her gifts and talents by living out the words of the hymn, “Little is much when God is in it”. Bettie never graduated from high school, but was a true student of learning as she taught her Sunday school class for many years. Ask anyone and they will tell you she was the most amazing cook! She was known for her pies, cookies, and Buckeyes. Her home was always filled with the smell of warm baked sweets and fresh brewed coffee. She enjoyed reading and taking the time to teach grand-daughters and great grand-daughters how to crochet. She was an avid game player and never let you win, “just because.” Her hand written letters and cards are treasures that she penned with great care and sincerity for all occasions. Bettie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She married the love of her life, Bradie Williams, when she was just fifteen years old. They enjoyed sixty years of wedded bliss before he went home to be with the Lord in July of 2000. She was the loving mother of Jack (Ruth) Williams and the late Bradie Lee (Marilyn) Williams. She was the best “Tea Party Guest” and “Back Scratcher” to her four grand-daughters, Sherri (Mark) Morgan, Renee (Greg) Burton, Tara (Tim) Carnes, and Amanda (Mike) Workman. Sarah, Katie (Troy), Erica, Mitch (Sarah), Ryan, Zachary, Hannah, Hayden, Haley, and Lacey made her “GREAT” Grandma and Reagan, Brennon, Easton, and Grayson made her “GREAT-GREAT” Grandma and she loved to tell them so. She was a soft place of enjoyment to numerous nieces and nephews and a special loyal and selfless friend to all. Bettie will be greatly missed. Friends and family may visit with her, now quiet and resting, to remember her life, Thursday December 12 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the First Church of the Nazarene, 901 East Home Road, Springfield. Funeral services at 1PM with the Rev. Bruce Sigman, Rev. Carl Ogden, Dr. Robert L. Sayre and Pastor Keith Sarver officiating. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
