Barbara L. (Hubbard) Johnston, 90, of Bremen, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at Bickford of Lancaster. She was born on August 25, 1933 in Bremen, Ohio, along with her twin, Martha “Sue” the daughter of Victor and Carrie (Dent) Hubbard. She was the youngest of nine children. Barb was a 1951 graduate of Rushcreek Memorial High School. She married Joseph Johnston in 1953 after he returned from serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After being a stay-at-home mother, Barbara worked for Westerman Industries and J. Jay Hampson, Attorney-At-Law. She loved family, animals and her Ohio State Buckeyes.
Barb is survived by her daughters, Jody (Dr. Robert) Bode of Centerville, Indiana and Carrie (Jeff) Campbell of Lancaster; twin sister, Sue (Bill) Hochradel; 7 grandchildren, Zach (Jessica) Bode of Indianapolis. Kaitlyn (Nick) McDonald of Cincinnati, Wyatt Bode of Richmond, IN, Jake (Mindy) Campbell of Carroll, Lindsay (Dustin) Poling of Lancaster, Barbara Allie (KB) Justus of Lancaster and Jesse Campbell of Thornville; 14 great-grandchildren that she adored, Bradley, Sydney, Brynn and Lauryn Bode, Robbie, Lucy and Lucas McDonald, Vera, Mia and Sophia Campbell, Lily and Josie Poling and Kabe and Killian Justus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, her husband, Joe; their infant son, Brent; 4 brothers and 3 sisters; and her dog, Charlie.
Thank you to Fairhope Hospice and to her nurses at Bickford, Betsy, Cheryl, Doris and Jessica and all the staff who made her stay comfortable.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11 AM at Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Morgan Funeral Home in Bremen with Mark Morgan conducting the service. Barbara was very supportive of Mark when he came to Bremen and brought the funeral home back to life.
