Alvin Winfield Howdyshell, age 96, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on June 21, 2021. Alvin was born on July 25, 1924 to Ivan and Dora (Householder) Howdyshell. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served in WWII. After leaving the Navy, he married the love of his life, Mary Lois Haines on September 22, 1946. They were blessed with seven children.
Alvin was a master carpenter and retired in 1986 after 27 years from Max Stepleton Contractor. Alvin was a man of God. He attended Salem Chapel near his birthplace in Crossenville. One of the many bible verses he lived by was Micah 6:8 “Oh man what is good and what does the Lord require of thee: Only to do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.”
Alvin is survived by his wife of nearly 75 years, Mary; daughters, Lois Huston, Nina (Rod) Stoltz, Beth (Rod) Schultz, Judy (Tim) Mason and Lori (Ron) Osborn; son, Alvin (Rochelle) Howdyshell; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sisters, Wanda Grimm and Nellie (Bob) Morgan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by infant son, Mark; son-in-law, Ronnie Huston; infant grandson, Andy Mason; brothers, Frank (Onalee), Carl (0pal); sisters, Zelda Howdyshell, Beulah (Albert) Hull, Dorothy (Homer) Morgan, Rozella (Austin) Sherlock and Emma Howdyshell; and brother-in-law, Bob Grimm.
A time to visit with Alvin’s family will take place Wednesday from 5 – 8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 11 AM at Salem Chapel with Rev. Joseph Leighton officiating. Private graveside services will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Bremen.
