James McConnell, 79 of Bremen,died at 9:45 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home following a long illness. He was born October 8, 1931 in Fairfield County, Ohio the son of Joseph and Eva McConnell. He was a retired oil field worker and a member of the Bremen United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean Conflict and a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 20. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joseph; and one brother, Robert. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Mohler McConnell; one son, Douglas (Mary Lou) McConnell of Bremen; daughter-in-law, Lisa (McConnell) Strawn; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Jason) Hammer and Alyson (Chris) Shaffer; and three great-granddaughters, Maddie and Morgan Hammer and Adyson Shaffer. A visitation will take place Monday, April 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Deborah Nance officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to FairHope Hospice or the Bremen United Methodist Church.
